...and so it begins

T Leighton Womack photo
Lambing season started on January 6th this year.  No fanfare...just a set of ewe lambs eating their breakfast when I went to the barn. That's the way we like it!

So far, just four ewes have lambed and we have already run the gamut of birthing experiences. No assistance,  some assistance, critical intervention and finally more effort from both of us than put forth by the ewe.  ...and we're only about 25% done!  I've got some tales to tell.

But, each birth yielded healthy twins... and that's the goal of this whole deal.

The next few days should be intense, to say the least.  Many more experiences...many more stories...and hopefully MANY MORE lambs!

Other things are actually happening around here (or should be), so storytelling is going to be a low priority for a while. I'll be back in a couple days, after all the lambs are on the ground. (and perhaps I get the laundry put away)

Until then, here are some pictures of the babies...

  1. I just happened to stumble across your blog this afternoon. What a coincidence! I was born in downtown Middlebrook over 60 years ago, lived on a farm halfway between Middlebrook and Staunton during my growing years and presently live on the main drag near the Meating Place for close to 25 years now.
My dad raised sheep and Angus cattle. During this time of the year, we had many a lamb in the kitchen warming up and being bottle fed during the lambing season. Your pictures brought back many memories. Good luck to you and your family with your farming endeavors!

    1. It's nice to "meet" you, neighbor! I would have loved to see M'brook when it still had a downtown. I'll think of you next time I'm by the Meating Place (that's one of my favorite places around here)

We've been here for 16 years now and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. Our girls have some awesome childhood memories from their time living in M'brook.

Thanks for the kind wishes...hope you'll come back and visit our blog again soon.
